Your Guide - Tim Koester 831-262-7302
We understand that not everyone has hunted wild boars or possible never hunted at all. Always feel free to reach out and call if you have questions. We want you to be completely prepared for the hunt you are excited about.
Some common question we get asked.
Why pig hunts cost so much more on private land?
Yes, there are a number of places around the state you can hunt pigs on public land, which would be a lot cheaper. The problem that many have found is that the success rate is very low. When you hunt on private land like we offer you will be the only hunters going after these pigs. Our land is private, but this does not mean the pigs are contained to just our properties. These are feral pigs roaming from property to property and they stay in these areas because of the water and food source. Not all of these properties are our private land, so we lease these properties and have to pay a fee to hunt on them. So rest assured that when you hunt with us we are taking you to areas where we have seen pigs in the past and we want every opportunity for you to have success. But also understand these are wild animals and can be very unpredictable at times. This is why we want you to be prepared to take that shot when that shot comes available.
When will we be hunting?
Many people think we hunt wild hogs all day long and this isn't the case. The best time to hunt matters on the time of year and weather. Hunting wild boar and feral hogs is a little different than hunting other big game. You see they are about as nocturnal as a deer, but for different reasons. A boar does not have sweat glands like we do and cannot cool off easily; wallowing in cool mud, water, and traveling at night is their way of cooling themselves. This is why early mornings and late evenings are the best times to hunt them. The summer times can get pretty hot in our area which causes these animals to bed down quickly to stay cool. So understand you will have down time in the late morning and afternoon when we won't be hunting.
During the winter season we can hunt longer days because cooler weather allows the hogs to roam longer before going to their bedding areas. We can also sometimes get rain and when this happens the properties can become very muddy and difficult to get around on. The most important part for me as your guide is to stay connected with you as the hunter. We know these areas very well and don't want you to make trips up to hunt if the weather isn't going to cooperate.
What's included in the Hunt and How long will we be hunting?
You should plan for 2 DAYS of hunting which can be on foot or by off road vehicle. 2 Days provides you the best odds for success which is what we are working toward. You will be Charged $200.00 per day, per hunter to guide you for the two day trip. Additional fees will be charged for harvested animals. When you harvest a pig your fees includes skinning, cleaning and preparing your pig so it is ready for processing.
If you are looking for a shorter or longer hunt this must be specified.
Bring the right gun.
On the "Things to Know" page I have gun recommendations. The reason I recommend particular guns is because I have had many people think this is a simple hunt and then miss shots. They have also come with the wrong gun and wound animals which isn't ethical. You must also understand these animals won't stay still for long or at all. You will need to be able to take a quick shot because some of these animals might be on the move. Don't come with exotic guns. Use the right tool for the job. Please ask me if you have questions....
The Hunter's Role in a Guided Hunt
As a hunter, you need to understand that you share equal responsibility in this hunt with the Guide. My role as your Guide is to help you harvest an animal by knowing the land and tracking where the animals are throughout the year.
Your role is to come prepared. This means bringing a weapon sighted in at a minimum of 100 yards and spending time practicing your shooting. Your preparation is essential for a successful hunt.
While I will provide an opportunity within a reasonable shooting range, it is your responsibility to have the basic skills needed to make the shot. My job is to Guide the hunt, and your job is to make the shot to ensure success.
